Memorial Day 5-30-2011: The Right Blogfest: Standing In The Shadows Of Greatness

We hope and pray that you and your loved are safe and are standing out of harm's way on this day.

May it not be lost on any one of us that we are free today because of those who have laid their lives on that thin red line, with so many of them paying the highest price a man or woman can pay, so we in this country remain free. At what price is freedom no 'longer worth it'? There are too many today that are saying it is time the United States learned it's place in the new world order. It is both infuriating, sad and insulting to so many serving in our military that today we have a commander in chief who seems to think and act along that NWO line of thought. To that and to all the naysayers I say this: freedom does not have a price tag, a price that may be 'too high' to pay. Where would we be or where would the world be today had that line of thought prevailed in 1776, 1812, 1861, 1917, 1941, 1953, 1964, 1991, 2001 and all the conflicts this country has known since then? Not a pleasant thought, is it? Today IS NOT for arguing or discourse. Today is about honor shown, prayers and thankfulness given to those who served in the past, now, and to those who will serve in the future, to those who have fallen and will fall.

Today is Memorial Day, May 30, 2011.  Feel free to share with others if you have found our efforts worthy of mention to others. While that is appreciated, today May 30, 2011, Memorial Day is NOT about us but to do honor to those who have paid in service, honor, duty, to country and freedom, with blood and too many times for this Patriot, with their very lives.

That I could do the same should that day ever come when my country, The United States of America, calls on me to stand up in harms way to confront and defeat, no matter how or in what manner the evil that threatens us. Like my Grandfather, Father and Uncles before me who answered their country's call. I stand in the shadows of greatness cast by those who have served and have fallen before me and us.

The Unknown Soldier

More than 1 Million American men and women have given their lives in the defense of freedom. For all those whose names we do not know, the Unknown Soldiers of World War I, World War II, Korea and Vietnam serve as a somber reminder of the cost of Freedom.

Navy Corpsman William Charette looked out from the deck of the U.S.S. Canberra. The medic had saved many lives during the Korean war and just five years earlier had been awarded the Medal of Honor. Before him on this day in 1958 were three flag-draped caskets, soldiers who hadn't survived their war. What made these three men unique was the fact that no one knew their names, knew from whence they hailed, or even in what branch of service they had served. They were unknowns. Even without knowing the details of their lives, the fact remained that they had answered their country's call, defended the ideals the flag that covered their caskets represented, and sacrificed their lives in the process. Slowly the corpsman bent and placed a wreath beside one of the caskets. In so doing he designated which of the three would be buried as "The Unknown Soldier of World War II".


Since 1776, no generation of Americans has been spared the responsibility of defending freedom by force of arms. Forty million American men and women have answered the call to duty, more than one million sacrificing their lives in the belief that some principles are worth fighting…and even dying…to preserve. Fewer than 3,500 of these brave soldiers have been awarded the Medal of Honor, but each and every man or woman who has ever served with honor and distinction is, in a sense, a hero. Among the legacy left by these millions of unheralded warriors are many unknown acts of courage and sacrifice. Certainly there are many whose actions may have merited such an award but for whatever reason the moment of valor was not recorded for posterity. The unknown soldiers buried in Arlington and elsewhere in the world ARE EACH RECIPIENTS of the Medal of Honor, unknown veterans of combat who in death, remind us of the unknown heroism of so many millions of others.

Veterans Day, the holiday set aside to remember the sacrifice of our Nation's men and women in uniform, took its roots from the signing of the armistice ending World War I in 1919. As such it was appropriate that on that day two years later, the unknown soldier of World War I was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery beneath a crypt bearing the inscription "Here rests in honored glory an American soldier known but to God". After a sober procession through the streets of Washington, President Warren G. Harding pinned the Medal of Honor to the flag that covered the casket. (The Unknown Soldier of World War I was also awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, as well as the highest awards of all allied nations. Congress further authorized awards of the Medal of Honor to the unknown soldiers of World War I who were buried in Belgium, Great Britain, France, Italy, and Rumania.)

The war to end all wars wasn't, and within 25 years 16 million men and women proved their willingness to protect liberty and human dignity at the risk of their own lives. A burial was planned for the unidentified remains of one such World War II casualty when the United States found itself defending freedom yet again, this time in Korea. The interment was delayed until that war had ended. On Memorial Day a month after Corpsman Charette placed that symbolic wreath aboard the U.S.S. Canberra, the unknown soldiers of both World War II and Korea were lowered to rest next to their brother in arms from World War I. President Dwight D. Eisenhower presented the Medal of Honor to each.

Ninee years after the Vietnam War ended President Ronald Reagan stood before yet another flag draped casket at Arlington. "Thank you dear son," he said more for benefit of the solemn gathering than the young man beneath the flag who could no longer hear such words. "May God cradle you in His loving arms." Then, as had two presidents before him, he awarded the Medal of Honor to an unknown American soldier who had made the ultimate sacrifice. (The Vietnam War Unknown Soldier was chosen in a similar wreath laying ceremony, the wreath being placed by Vietnam War Medal of Honor recipient Allan Kellogg, Jr.)


The remains of the Vietnam Unknown were exhumed May 14, 1998. Based on mitochondrial DNA testing, Department of Defense scientists identified the remains as those of Air Force 1st Lt. Michael Joseph Blassie, who was shot down near An Loc, Vietnam, in 1972.  Lieutenant Blassie was subsequently reinterred near his family's home in St. Louis, Missouri.  Based upon the advancements in remains identification it seems unlikely that body of a truly unknown soldier from the Vietnam war could ever be found, and it has been determined that the crypt will therefore remain empty.

The resting place of the Unknown Soldier of that war is now empty but the Medal of Honor remains to honor the unknown valor of a still another generation of unknown heroes.

TEXT OF PLAQUE
Under authority of Public Resolution 67, of the 66th Congress, approved March 4, 1921, An unknown American Soldier was exhumed from each of the four American cemeteries in France.  They were placed in identical caskets and assembled at Chalons Sur Marne.

The Unknown Soldier was selected on October 24, 1921.  Sergeant Edward F. Younger, US Army, carrying a spray of white roses, entered the room where the four unmarked, flag draped caskets were resting.  He slowly circled, silently placing the roses on one of the caskets.  Thus the unknown soldier was officially designated.  The three remaining unknowns were then returned to the Meuse Argonne Cemetery.

The unknown soldier was placed aboard the US Cruiser Olympia, which arrived at the Nation's Capitol on November 9, 1921.  The honored remains were taken to the Rotunda of the United States Capitol to rest in state until Armistice Day on November 11.  The Unknown Soldier was moved to the Memorial Amphitheater in Arlington National Cemetery.  After services in the Amphitheater, the remains were borne to the sarcophagus for brief committal rites.  The impressive ceremony closed with three salvos of artillery, the sounding of Taps, and the National Salute.

Under authority of Public Law 429, 79th Congress, Approved 24 June 1946.  13 Unknown Americans who lost their lives while serving overseas in the Armed Forces of the United States during World War II were exhumed from American cemeteries in Europe and Africa and shipped in identical caskets to Epinal, France.  Major General Edward J. O'Neill, US Army, on May 12, 1958, solemnly chose from among these caskets one to be designated as the Trans Atlantic candidate Unknown.  The remaining unknown Americans were reinterred.
The remains of two unknown Americans were disinterred on April 15, 1958 from the National Cemetery of the Pacific, Hawaii, and four unknowns were disinterred from the Fort McKinley American Cemetery and Memorial in the Philippines.  The six unknowns wee then taken to Hickam Air Force Base, where on May 16, 1958, Colonel Glenn T. Eagleston, US Air Force, placed a white carnation lei, selecting the candidate Unknown to represent the Trans Pacific Phase of World War II.  The five other caskets were reinterred.

The candidate unknown was then transported to the cruiser Canberra where the final selection of the World War II unknown took place on the after-missile deck of the Canberra.  Hospitalman First Class William R. Charette, the Navy's only active enlisted holder of the Medal of Honor, had the distinction of making the selection of the World War II unknown.  After a moments hesitation he placed a wreath at the foot of the casket on his right.  This was the Unknown of World War II.  The unknown not selected received a sailor's burial at sea.

Under authority of Public Law 972, 84th Congress, approved August 3, 1956, 4 unknown Americans who lost their lives while serving overseas in the Armed Forces of the United States during the Korean Conflict were exhumed from the National Cemetery of the Pacific in Hawaii.  On May 15, 1958 Master Sergeant Ned Lyle, US Army, holding a carnation wreath stood momentarily silent before the four identical flag-draped caskets.  He placed the wreath on the end casket to signify the selection of the Korean War Unknown.  The remaining unknown Americans were reinterred at the National Cemetery of the Pacific.  The Unknown of Korea was transported to the Cruiser Canberra to join the Unknown of World War II.
At sea off Norfolk, Virginia, the Unknowns of World War II and Korea were transferred to the Destroyer Blandy, which brought them to the Nation's Capitol.  Upon their arrival on May 28, 1958 the Unknowns were taken to the Rotunda of the Nation's Capitol, to rest in state until Memorial Day, May 30, 1958.  The Unknowns were then moved to the Memorial Amphitheater in Arlington National Cemetery and there before the distinguished guests, the President awarded the Medal of Honor to each.  After the services, they were borne to this plaza, and following religious rites, they received a 21 Gun Salute.  The services concluded with the firing of three volleys and the sounding of Taps.

In 1973 Congress passed Public Law 93-43 directing the Secretary of Defense to inter an unknown American serviceman from the Vietnam Conflict at The Tomb of the Unknowns.  The sophisticated identification techniques were remarkably efficient, and it was not until 1984 that remains of an American serviceman were classified as unidentifiable.
During ceremonies at Pearl Harbor on May 17, 1984, Sgt. Maj. Allan Kellogg, Jr., A Medal of Honor recipient during the Vietnam Conflict, placed a wreath before the casket, formally designating the Unknown from the Vietnam Conflict.  The Unknown was placed aboard the USS Brewton for transport to the mainland United States.

The Unknown arrived at the U.S. Capitol on May 25, 1984, where he lay in state for three days in the Rotunda.  On Memorial Day, May 28, 1984, an elaborate funeral procession transferred the body to the Memorial Amphitheater.  During the service, President Ronald Reagan presented the Medal of Honor to the Unknown.  The Vietnam Unknown was then borne to the plaza and following religious rites, a 21 Gun Salute was rendered.  The solemn service concluded with 3 volleys of rifle fire, followed by the sounding of Taps.

General Douglas Mac Arthur addressed the USMA in a most moving speech:

General Douglas MacArthur, who delivered his address on "Duty, Honor and Country," without the assistance of teleprompters, or even notes.

His words immortalize the spirit of all American Patriots who have served our nation in uniform:

Their story is known to all of you. It is the story of the American man at arms. My estimate of him was formed on the battlefields many, many years ago, and has never changed. I regarded him then, as I regard him now, as one of the world's noblest figures; not only as one of the finest military characters, but also as one of the most stainless.

His name and fame are the birthright of every American citizen. In his youth and strength, his love and loyalty, he gave all that mortality can give. He needs no eulogy from me, or from any other man. He has written his own history and written it in red on his enemy's breast.

But when I think of his patience under adversity, of his courage under fire, and of his modesty in victory, I am filled with an emotion of admiration I cannot put into words. He belongs to history as furnishing one of the greatest examples of successful patriotism. He belongs to posterity as the instructor of future generations in the principles of liberty and freedom. He belongs to the present, to us, by his virtues and by his achievements.

In twenty campaigns, on a hundred battlefields, around a thousand campfires, I have witnessed that enduring fortitude, that patriotic self-abnegation, and that invincible determination which have carved his statue in the hearts of his people.

From one end of the world to the other, he has drained deep the chalice of courage. As I listened to those songs of the glee club, in memory's eye I could see those staggering columns of the First World War, bending under soggy packs on many a weary march, from dripping dusk to drizzling dawn, slogging ankle deep through mire of shell-pocked roads; to form grimly for the attack, blue-lipped, covered with sludge and mud, chilled by the wind and rain, driving home to their objective, and for many, to the judgment seat of God.

I do not know the dignity of their birth, but I do know the glory of their death. They died unquestioning, uncomplaining, with faith in their hearts, and on their lips the hope that we would go on to victory. Always for them: Duty, Honor, Country. Always their blood, and sweat, and tears, as they saw the way and the light.

And twenty years after, on the other side of the globe, against the filth of dirty foxholes, the stench of ghostly trenches, the slime of dripping dugouts, those boiling suns of the relentless heat, those torrential rains of devastating storms, the loneliness and utter desolation of jungle trails, the bitterness of long separation of those they loved and cherished, the deadly pestilence of tropic disease, the horror of stricken areas of war.

Honor Justice and Humanity

Thomas Jefferson offered this advice to all generations of Patriots: "Honor, justice, and humanity, forbid us tamely to surrender that freedom which we received from our gallant ancestors, and which our innocent posterity have a right to receive from us. We cannot endure the infamy and guilt of resigning succeeding generations to that wretchedness which inevitably awaits them if we basely entail hereditary bondage on them."

Indeed.

We owe a great debt of gratitude to all those generations who have passed the torch of liberty to succeeding generations.

Arlington National Cemetery


The unknown soldier has served, sacrificed and paid with their lives on battlefields, wars and conflicts all around the world. Lest we forget that the unknown soldier is not just an American soldier but one that fell in honor and duty as our allies, our TRUE allies and we know who they are. An honor that I and we should have no problem honoring, and I do not. How many have fallen and were never returned home to there loved ones? In my heart I know that we will never know that exact number and if we did it would most certainly horrify our politically correct, sanitized world of today.

I am an American and Memorial Day is special in our home. Sure, it is about a barbeque and we have Salmon steaks, Ling Cod and other delights marinating for the grill. It does not matter that it will at best, be 55 degrees out, raining and almost June. Today is about honor, duty, dedication, service, and that ultimate sacrifice that so many in our nation know all too well. I have many, many friends as many of have who have, who have lost sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, uncles, aunts, husbands, wives, and the list goes on. Iraq, Afghanistan, Desert Storm, Vietnam, Korea, World War II. World war I, Spanish American War, Our Civil War with perhaps the MOST unknown soldiers from any of our conflicts, War of 1812, and our Revolutionary War. I have friends who were lost in 'Nam.They were never were found and are still MIA but we know who they are.

The Unknown Soldier's Tomb is one of the most visited places in our country and perhaps THE most visited.  I once had a friend who had NEVER heard of the Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier and thought it was a a silly memorial to have. He thought it a waste of time and it did not matter how my Mom and I tried to convince him otherwise. One day he finally understood. It was 1968 and his uncle had gone MIA in Vietnam. Days turned into week and the weeks into months, then they blurred into years. My friend passed away six years ago, his uncle still MIA. This is what took for him to understand why the Tomb Of Unknown Soldier was there. All across our free and fair land this Tomb has been the only Memorial so many have come to know that honors what they lost.

environazis on the march: Killing off fireworks shows because of environmental harm?

Read this and weep, then get really really mad. As if they have not wrecked enough of the United States economy over the past few decades, the environazis have now succeeded in possibly killing off hundreds, perhaps thousands of fireworks shows. Starting in the San Diego, Falicornia area(what a surprise)a lawsuit has prevailed to now require an Environmental Impact Review BEFORE the show can proceed. Does anyone realize how much these EIR's can cost? Thousands and thousands of dollars not to mention the months to possibly years it can take to get one pushed through. Of course the state of Falicornia is so broke it is seeing only dollar signs from the fees generated by such a moronic ruling. How many shows will now be cancelled and possibly for good because of this idiotic ruling.

“If you were to sum it up with one word, I would say ‘vindication.’ It’s vindication for the environment ... and it’s vindication for my client because of the amount of disparaging comments and general negativity that was thrown our way when we were told that our lawsuit was frivolous,” Gonzalez said."

Not only is your lawsuit frivolous Mr. Gonzalez, it is unAmerican and unpatriotic. You sir, are a prime example of why I loathe and hold people like you and your quest to kill our country through foolish litigation, in the lowest regard. You are nothing more than a DOMESTIC TERRORIST and you deserve to vilified for the stance and positions you have decided to take and suppoort.

Fireworks shows need new environmental review
Court ruling could have sweeping impact

Fireworks shows are among thousands of events in San Diego each year that need environmental review under a Superior Court ruling on Friday.

What started as a battle over fireworks shows led to a sweeping legal victory Friday for environmentalists that could stymie a wide range of events needing city permits, from the Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon to birthday parties held at parks.

“According to the strictest interpretation of this, jumpy-jumps and everything else would be subject to environmental review if this ruling stands,” said lawyer Robert Howard, who represented the La Jolla Community Fireworks Foundation in the case. “It’s a breathtaking ruling.”

California Environmental Quality Act

• The statute requires state and local agencies to identify significant environmental impacts of their actions and avoid or mitigate them, if feasible.

• Its origin can be traced to passage of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969. The next year, the state Legislature passed its own version and Gov. Ronald Reagan signed it.

• Projects that need discretionary governmental approval and could have an environmental impact generally require review under the law, unless an exemption applies.

• Public agencies are entrusted with compliance, which is enforced by the public through litigation.

Superior Court Judge Linda Quinn said La Jolla’s annual Fourth of July fireworks show requires evaluation under the California Environmental Quality Act, or CEQA.

The case, filed by the Coastal Environmental Rights Foundation in Encinitas, targeted San Diego’s approval of the La Jolla event but eventually drew in a broad swath of city permits. San Diego officials said they issue about 400 special-events permits annually, along with up to 20,000 park-use permits for smaller-scale gatherings — most of which would now need environmental assessment.

“San Diego issues thousands of these simple park-use permits over the counter with the only consideration being space, just as other cities do across the state,” said City Attorney Jan Goldsmith. “Existing law has never been interpreted to require a CEQA review for this. ... This decision opens the door to absurd results. This is the reason appellate courts exist and we plan to ask for their help.”

Even before the judge’s ruling was finalized, Chula Vista officials on Thursday pulled the plug on their July Fourth show in the face of funding shortfalls and environmental challenges.

The future of La Jolla’s event was fuzzy Friday. Organizers likely can’t complete the time-intensive and costly CEQA analysis by July 4, but Howard said he would ask the court to allow this year’s event while the case is appealed.

City Councilwoman Sherri Lightner, whose district includes La Jolla, said she hoped to find a solution. “We have to strike a balance that protects the environment but also allows our finest traditions to continue,” she said.

On Tuesday, the City Council ratified a long-standing city policy of exempting fireworks shows from special-events permits unless food or alcohol is sold. It was an attempt to shield pyrotechnics from environmental challenges, but Friday’s decision means CEQA still applies.

Environmental impact reports can take a year and cost tens of thousands of dollars.

“Does that mean every event has to get a full environmental impact report? No, but it means that the city has to undertake the burden and applicants have to undertake the cost” of a lower-level CEQA analysis, Howard said.

He said some “events” such as temporary Christmas tree stands have existing exemptions under the law, but many others don’t.

Alex Roth, a spokesman for Mayor Jerry Sanders, framed the suit as part of a “bizarre crusade to stop fireworks.”

“What’s next, a lawsuit against swimmers for polluting the ocean with their suntan lotion?” Roth said.

Earlier this month, his lawsuit had spurred regional pollution regulators to adopt a new permit for fireworks shot over beaches and bays. The mandate, based on the Clean Water Act, was a national first.

Gonzalez said he also is breaking new ground in seeking reviews of fireworks shows under California environmental law.

“There are a whole host of impacts that we know occur from fireworks shows, from marine mammals to marine birds to water quality to traffic to noise to the air,” Gonzalez said. “We want it studied and we want it mitigated.”

Tony Manolatos, a spokesman for City Councilman Kevin Faulconer, stood by the council’s exemption for fireworks. “I think banning fireworks on the Fourth of July is un-American,” he said, “and I think the majority of San Diegans would agree.”

Gonzalez has repeatedly said that protecting water quality and coastal species is patriotic.

Palin: Obama Borrows from China to Give to Muslim Brotherhood

Should we be borrowing money from China to turn around and give it to the Muslim Brotherhood?

Given that we are running massive deficits and are drowning in more than $14 trillion in debt, and despite not knowing who will rule Egypt until its election this fall, this strange strategy may be the end result given President Obama’s announcement that he is committing $2 billion to Egypt’s “new government.” It’s part of a $20 billion foreign aid package laid out with the Group of 8 countries in Europe today.

Now, given that Egypt has a history of corruption when it comes to utilizing American aid, it is doubtful that the money will really help needy Egyptian people. Couple that with the fact that the Muslim Brotherhood is organized to have a real shot at taking control of Egypt’s government, and one has to ask why we would send money (that we don’t have) into unknown Egyptian hands?

Throwing borrowed money around is not sound economic policy. And throwing borrowed money around the developing world is not sound foreign policy. Foreign assistance should go to American allies that need it and appreciate it, and for humanitarian purposes when it can truly make a difference.

No foreign aid to the Muslim Brotherhood. A corollary is no policy that emboldens or in any way encourages the Muslim Brotherhood and rightwing political Islam, or Islamism. What too few Americans appreciate is that their President--America's most leftwing-ever President--is actually pro-Islamist. This is worth repeating: the most leftwing-ever leader of the world's greatest democracy is pro-rightwing political Islam. Like other leftists and liberal loons, Obama sees Islam as the religion of the poor, and the clerical fascist creed that has become practically synonymous with organized Islam as somehow progressive. The sword of Islam, according to Obama and those advising him (e.g. Samantha Power) slices in sync with and serves to advance the "moral arc of history."

His policy from the outset has been to narrow the definition of the Islamist foe to Al Qaeda and "irreconcilable" Taliban, and to engage (appease and attempt to align with) all other Islamist entities and organizations, including: the Hitler-admiring Muslim Brotherhood, which spawned Al Qaeda and its offshoots; nuclear-arming Iran; and supposed "moderate" wings of Hamas and Hezbollah.

As this reporter predicted, the long overdue killing of AQ leader Osama Bin Laden has given Obama political cover to be even more pro-Islamist. Put differently, Obama now seems to see himself as a sort of leftwing 007, an agent of radical change, if you will, with a license to kill ... Israel.

Fact is, Obama betrayed Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak, who for three decades following the Islamist assassination of his predecessor, Anwar Sadat, had been an American ally and had maintained his country's peace pact with neighboring Israel. Obama effectively gave a green light to the Egyptian revolution by emboldening the Muslim Brotherhood through a series of secret US-MB meetings and by making sure that the group's leaders were prominently present at his disgraceful Cairo speech--an address to the so-called Muslim world, which is itself an Islamist concept as it assumes the existence of a global Muslim nation united by belief in the Koran to a degree that transcends all political, national, and ethnic boundaries and differences. For this alone--for validating and pandering to this core Islamist concept--Obama should have been/should now be rejected by all decent Americans and their friends abroad.

POSTSCRIPT: The Left's alliance with Islamism recalls the infamous Hitler-Stalin pact. But even the foreign Communists who stuck by Stalin for the most part didn't dare argue that Naziism was "progressive." In contrast, today's Left is positively enthusiastic about its alliance with rightwing political Islam. Such is their hatred of America, Israel, capitalism, Judaism and Christianity, Western democracy.

Similarly, Obama's engagement of Islamism is worse than Neville Chamberlain's appeasement of Nazi Germany. Chamberlain was not pro-Nazi; he foolishly believed that Germany under Hitler could be satisfied with territorial concessions and that a policy of appeasement could preserve the peace in Europe. Obama, on the other hand, is pro-Islamist. He believes in oxymoronic Islamist/Islamic democracy, or Islamocracy. Michigan libtard and friends call for protecting the rights of muslims through Congress

So why do muslims deserve Congress to come to their aid? I see aboslutely NO reason, not one for our government to proclaim such nonsense for muslims. Here is a snippet from the next post below:

Why should muslims get more rights or 'special protection' under the First Amendment, especially from Law Enforcement? Most of the time we cannot get a break when it comes to islam versus the average citizen, white citizens, I must add that last bit in. muslims are attacking our freedom and liberty on every front. Our schools, colleges, government(from the local level on up), law enforcement agencies, intelligence agencies, the military, the school book and curriculum industry and the list goes on and on.

They attack us for special foot baths in airports and on colleges, to get prayer rooms set aside for prayers that almost always become muslim only prayer rooms through threats and intimidation against other TRUE religions that have a RIGHT to such rooms, for extra breaks to pray to their perverted pedophile prophet mohammad and their moon rock 'god', allah, they attack any and EVERY negative thing said, written or drawn about the little girl molesting, raping pervert mohammad, and I could go on and on.

So you tell me, us here what muslim, or what has islam done for any of us? What great things has islam or muslims contributed to the greatness that is still America, for now.That America that is now rapidly fading away into the sunset we see in the rear view mirror.

If this offends you or your sensibilities oh well. It is not the first time nor will it be the last time. I find EVERYTHING and anything about islam and sharia law extremely offensive to me. islam is not a religion in the frist place. Michigan Dems call for Congress to reaffirm civil rights of Muslims

Detroit Congressmen John Conyers and Hansen Clark, both Democrats, have asked Congress to counter a general climate of bias against the American Muslim community by passing a resolution affirming the civil rights of Muslims.

“We believe that this sense of Congress is a logical step toward sending the message that the American Muslim community should be able to enjoy the rights guaranteed under the Constitution to the same extent as all other Americans,” said Conyers and Clarke.

They should also be able to rely on law enforcement’s fundamental integrity and respect for First Amendments protected rights.”

Meanwhile the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reaffirmed the rights of non-Muslims in the Islamic enclave of Dearborn, Michigan where the Arab police chief restricted the 1st Amendment rights of Christians. Where was Conyers when the rights of non-Muslims were being denied repeatedly in Michigan? Defending his corrupt, convicted wife?

Muslims in Michigan were recently given a leg up on other residents when it swore in a U.S. Attorney linked to pro-Hamas/Hizbollah groups.

A teacher at Oakland’s Markham Elementary School has been suspended indefinitely after school officials said a pair of second-graders performed sex acts on each other in class – with the teacher present.

“I think everyone is taken aback over this shocking incident,” Troy Flint, the spokesman for the Oakland Unified School District, told CBS 5. “Of course, it is hard to understand how that could have occurred.”

n one case, several students apparently took off their clothes and were naked in the classroom. In the second incident, a boy and girl reportedly engaged in oral sex in front of their classmates.

Flint indicated that the suspended teacher, whose name was not released by the school district, was present for both of the incidents.

Flint and Markham principal Pam Booker said they were limited in terms of the details they could release at this time because of the ongoing investigation into the matter.

Booker noted that the students said to be involved in the incidents were interviewed by school leaders.

Some critics have complained that the issue of education has been conspicuously absent from presidential television debates. But the Democratic candidates did sound off about their pro-federal-government, pro-spending policies when addressing the annual convention of the National Education Association, and the nation's largest teachers union liked what they heard.

Senator Hillary Clinton told the NEA delegates that she will fight school vouchers "with every breath in my body." Reiterating the message of her book It Takes a Village, she called for universal preschool for four-year-olds.

Senator Barack Obama likewise inveighed against "passing out vouchers." Former Senator John Edwards also announced his opposition to vouchers and proposed that the federal government pay college tuition for all students who will work ten hours a week. Governor Bill Richardson wants to "raise teacher's average minimum wage to $40,000 a year." Rep. Dennis Kucinich goes all-out for "a universal prekindergarten system which will provide year-around daycare for children ages 3-5."

All Democratic candidates look forward to increased federal control of and spending for public schools. And they all attacked George W. Bush's No Child Left Behind law for not appropriating more funds to implement it.

After cheering the promises made by the Democratic candidates, NEA delegates buckled down to the serious business of spelling out their political goals, many of which have nothing whatever to do with giving schoolchildren a better education.

The NEA demands a tax-supported single-payer health-care plan (socialized medicine) for all residents (a word artfully chosen to include illegal aliens). The NEA supports immigration "reform" that "includes [note: this is a change from last year's verb "may include"] a path to permanent residency, citizenship, or asylum" for illegal aliens.

For many years, and again this year, the NEA urged a national holiday honoring Cesar Chavez. The NEA must have forgotten that Chavez, a strident advocate for farm workers, vehemently opposed illegal immigration because he knew it depressed the wages of U.S. citizens and legal immigrants.

The NEA supports a beefed-up federal "hate crimes" law with heavier penalties. The NEA wants federal legislation to confer special rights on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity and expression.

The NEA passed at least a dozen resolutions supporting the gay rights agenda in public schools. These cover employment, curricula, textbooks, resource and instructional materials, school activities, role models, and language (with frequent use of terms such as sexual orientation, gender identification, and homophobia).

The NEA enthusiastically supports all the goals of radical feminism, including abortion, the Equal Rights Amendment, school-based health clinics, wage control so the government can arbitrarily raise the pay of women but not men, the feminist pork called the Women's Educational Equity Act, and letting feminists rewrite textbooks to conform to feminist ideology.

The NEA supports statehood for the District of Columbia. The NEA supports affirmative action. The NEA calls for repeal of right-to-work laws, which allow teachers in some states to decline joining the NEA.

The NEA supports United Nations treaties, especially the UN Convention on Women (CEDAW), the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and the International Criminal Court. The NEA loves global education, which promotes world citizenship and taxing Americans to give away our wealth to other countries. Another NEA favorite is environmental education, which teaches that human activity is generally harmful to the environment and population should be reduced.

Here are some of the things the NEA opposes: vouchers, tuition tax credits, all parental choice programs, making English our official language, the use of voter ID for elections, and the privatization of Social Security.

High on the list of NEA policies that actually relate to education is opposition to the testing of teachers as a criterion for job retention, promotion, tenure, or salary.

The NEA reiterated its support for pre-kindergarten for "all three-and four-year-old children," mandatory full-day kindergarten, and "early childhood education programs in the public schools for children from birth through age eight." The NEA demands that this "early" education have "diversity-based curricula" and "bias-free screening devices."

The NEA wants the right to teach schoolchildren about sex without any interference from parents, but on the other hand wants its pals in the bureaucracy to regulate all homeschooling taught by parents. The NEA opposes allowing homeschoolers to participate in any public school sports or extracurricular activities.

Two of the NEA's favorite words in its resolutions and policies are diversity (that means teaching that gay behavior is OK), and multiculturalism (that means stressing negative things about America and positive things about non-Christian cultures).

The exorbitant dues that teachers pay to the NEA enable its well-paid staff to lobby Congress and state legislatures in behalf of all these goals.

The National Education Association since it's beginnings have NEVER contributed one dime to a conservative candidate running for public office AT ANY LEVEL!

About that special election in the 26th district of New York...........

I have read some many op/eds, articles on how the Republicans bungled away an election they had in the bag in New York state. Yes, the Republicans dropped the ball to certain extent and deserve to be kicked to the curb over this loss BUT there is another side to this loss. That is the smear job of lies, threats and deceit that the democrats and libtards used to scare the over 55 voter into thinking their cash cow that Medicare would be taken away from them. Lock, stock and barrel. This is going to be one of the main weapons the liberals will use to ensure a democratic victory in 2012. Sad as that reality may be, it is the truth. At this particular moment I see no one from the Conservative side(not Republicans, I mean a really true CONSTITUTIONAL CONSERVATIVE) that will be able to beat obama in 2012. The mullah in the White House, the first muslim potus will lie, cheat and threaten his way into a 2nd term unless the truth is pushed out there and hard by some real Conservatives that are not what infests the much of right today. Just like he did in 2008.

Steve Bussey has written an outstanding opinion on the Republican loss of the 26th district and ties this in to other reasons this district was coughed up like a nasty hairball, into the desperate hands of the democrats. While much of the elderly vote strayed away from the Republican candidate, the blame goes much deeper and farther than this. You may find yourself offended by what you about to read but I make NO APOLOGIES to anyone about this. Why? Because it is true, every word. There is so much on the line beyond the 2012 election. It is about American character, the WILL TO WIN against the evil(s) of this world, the special qualities of the American project that rose out of the ashes from the start of the Revolutionary war, from the blood and sacrifice that we Americans used to willing to shed for our country, it is about American Execptionalism. I know not all us elderly are like the ones Mr. Bussey rakes over the coals here. I am creeping up on 60 myself. I will not roll over to the likes of what LBJ spawned with his "Great Society."
 
We know who and what the enemies of America are. I know what I will doing about this and them. I pray to God that you and million more will join us at the very least, for the sake of children and grandchildren. Time is not on our side.

The current American Elderly and NY’s 26th: Shame on you

Discussing politics occasionally means using a very broad brush – and this is one of those times.

The word coming out of the special election in New York’s 26th Congressional District is that the elderly population swung that heavily Republican district to the Democrats due to an unfounded fear that their candy was going to be taken away from them.

So to the American elderly in general and the elderly of NY 26 I say that you should be ashamed of yourself because you fiddled while Rome burned. Actually I mean the generation born in The Great Depression and the late Baby boomers.

At the moment the political war of survival began in our Nation some 45 years ago you turned your backs and excused your ignorance and patriotic sloth by claiming to be busy with work and family. And now today, faced with the bankruptcy of your spirit but given a second chance you only compound your sins.

Your forefathers left work and family pledging their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to take at the point of a bayonet their God-given unalienable rights – freedom and liberty you squandered through your neglect at best and outright greed at worst knowing that with LBJ’s Great Society you would be “taken care of” in your golden years and your parents would be taken off your financial back in your youth so you could play in the park or boat on the lake.

You sat back and voted for, or failed to oppose, the man who more than any other since FDR took our American train off the tracks, LBJ, even when he promised the following with no constitutional (legal) authority and the things he did are the primary instruments of our coming demise:

On May 22, 1964, Johnson declared “we have the opportunity to move not only toward the rich society and the powerful society, but upward to the Great Society.” Johnson had been searching for a phrase that would capture the spirit of his administration’s ambitions, finally deciding upon “Great Society.” The label described an America where poverty and racial injustice would have no place, where the elderly would be cared for, where education would be placed at a premium, and where the nation’s natural resources would be cherished and protected.

The landslide election of 1964 gave Johnson the mandate to realize his vision of a Great Society. The Democrats held two-thirds majorities in both houses of Congress. In his inaugural address Johnson expressed his unbounded enthusiasm for a grand future: “Is our world gone? We say farewell. Is a new world coming? We welcome it, and we will bend it to the hopes of man.” He was now more than just the custodian of JFK’s legacy.

You set the stage for that which we suffer today. You bought or ignored the lie and LBJ gave us the welfare state, Medicare, Medicaid and an expanded Social Security, all of which are siphoning off our freedoms today and bankrupting this nation and that literally led to the entitlement mentality we fight today in our own and subsequent generations.

You took your eye off the ball with respect to our schools and failed to stand up for family, city, county and state rights and let yourselves be bullied into the corner of mediocrity and silence, allowing our enemies a beachhead in the mind of America’s youth. The so-called “Greatest Generation” in America gave us very possibly the worst generation in America – you.

It is in vain, sir, to extenuate the matter. Gentlemen may cry, Peace, Peace– but there is no peace. The war is actually begun! The next gale that sweeps from the north will bring to our ears the clash of resounding arms! Our brethren are already in the field! Why stand we here idle? What is it that gentlemen wish? What would they have? Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!

I wanted to publish this article today in preparation for the Right Blog Fest taking place on Monday in celebration of Memorial Day – honoring the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in military service to this once great Nation.

We have evolved, or devolved if you will, from the Patrick Henry quote above to a nation where an armed representative of “The State” will pull you over while driving for not wearing your personal protective device – a seatbelt – and write you a ticket.

We have devolved to a point where we refer to the basic human right to move about as a “privilege,” and I don’t give a damn what form of transportation a free man selects, planes, trains, automobiles or bicycles. If you’re not walking somewhere then the omnipotent government considers your personal conveyance a privilege and they’ll even, in certain circumstances, regulate your walk!

We now live in a nation where the armed representatives of our government will stop you at a checkpoint on a public roadway and force you to “show your papers,” driver’s license, proof of insurance and registration in the absence of any probable cause or a traffic or criminal violation – the infamous DUI checkpoints – but they cannot demand proof of citizenship from suspected illegal aliens.

The Indiana Supreme Court recently decided that citizens of that State cannot protect their life and property against unlawful intrusions by law enforcement and our federal Supreme Court decided cops can storm your house without a warrant and having done no previous investigation if they suspect you might be destroying evidence (of something – who knows what).

In some places the city will give you a selection of colors with which they will “allow you” to paint your house and decide how long your grass can be. You have to seek their permission on bended knee and pay for the “privilege” of cutting down your own tree, fencing your own property and more.

Our national leaders now sit around – without embarrassment – and decide how best to divide the spoils of their latest election victory and claim the undefined or ill-defined “rich” have no inherent right to the fruits of their own labor. Some notable figures such as alleged documentarian Michael Moore claim the money possessed by the wealthy is not theirs, but a “national treasure,” and yet we sit here idle.

A presidential candidate proudly pledged to “fundamentally (yet ambiguously ) transform” this once great nation and millions of Americans elected him ostensibly for that purpose in spite of that fact that his pledged transformation meant that millions of Americans would become something little better than indentured servants!

Our forefathers fought, bled and died so that we might live free and codified their grand struggle in The Constitution of the United States. Now though, that august document is but an historic relic pilloried by politicians, pundits and activists.

Thousands of elderly in New York’s 26th Congressional District just elected a Democrat in a special election because they wrongfully believed that Republicans had the intestinal fortitude – which they don’t – to take away that which is given them unconstitutionally. They didn’t even have the courage to research and obtain the knowledge to discern the lie or the respect for the rule of law to sacrifice that which they receive illegally – the Constitution being the Supreme Law of the Land and making no provisions philosophically, explicitly or implicitly for anything even remotely resembling Medicare.

The voters in New York’s 26th just dishonored and insulted our Founding Fathers, you, me and this Nation.

Leading up to the day in which we honor the men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice for this once great Nation I cannot help but lament – America, Land of the blind and home of the stupid.
